Functional capacity report

What is Functional Capacity Assessment?

A Functional Capacity Assessment is a structured, evidence–based evaluation that provides a detailed overview of an individual’s everyday skills, support needs, and challenges. It focuses on the six key domains identified by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS): mobility, communication, social interaction, learning, self–care, and self–management. The assessment aims to highlight a person’s strengths, identify areas where additional support is needed, and inform funding decisions and support planning within the NDIS framework.

A Personalised, Strengths Focused Approach

  • We take a personalised and strengths-based approach to Functional Capacity Assessments, recognising the unique abilities, challenges, and lived experiences of each person and their family.
  • Our process is neurodiversity-affirming and guided by respect, collaboration, and care. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all model, we adapt each assessment to suit the individual, ensuring their voice and their family’s perspective are heard.
  • While we meet the NDIS’s formal, deficit-focused criteria, we do so with sensitivity, aiming to secure the supports needed without losing sight of the person’s strengths and potential.
